The Heart Behind Beacompanion
Aimee Chada
Founder, beacompanion
Too many seniors spend their days alone — quiet, disengaged, or slowly retreating because of dementia, mobility loss, or a life that has become smaller than it used to be.
Medications get managed. Meals are served. Personal care happens.
But the day is still long.
And many seniors are still waiting for something that helps them feel connected, engaged, and remembered.
That is where companionship matters.
Companionship is the walk in the sun, the crossword done together, the shared story from the past, the outing that reminds someone they are still part of life. It is not just spending time. It is helping a senior feel seen, known, valued, and engaged in a life that still belongs to them.
My love for this work started when I was 16, working my first job in the kitchen of a retirement home. I served meals, but what I loved most was talking with the residents and hearing their stories. It felt natural to me. I quickly realized how much I enjoyed being with seniors, and I began volunteering in the activity department.
That early experience led me to study gerontology, recreation, and leisure in college. I went on to work in long-term care as a recreation assistant, including one-to-one programming with residents living with severe dementia. I also managed volunteers and later became a recreation and leisure manager in a retirement home, overseeing staff, students, events, programs, and outings.
Through all of it, the part I loved most was always the same: the one-to-one moments.
The smaller conversations.
The personalized activities.
The chance to understand who someone was and help them stay connected to the things that still mattered to them.
If someone loved gardening, we planted. If someone had worked with wood, we found ways to bring that interest back into their day. If someone missed being useful, involved, or known, I looked for simple ways to help restore that sense of meaning and dignity.
Years later, after raising my family and doing other things in life, I came back to the work I had always loved most: supporting seniors one-to-one.
I saw again how many seniors have care, meals, medication, nurses, doctors, activities, and support around them — yet still spend so much of the day lonely, inactive, or watching life go by.
That is why I created beacompanion.
beacompanion exists to help people who love seniors build their own meaningful companionship business, with the tools they need to manage clients, visits, notes, agreements, and billing in a professional way.
The people who do this work best — PSWs, recreation professionals, caregivers, and others who already show up with heart — deserve a way to do it on their own terms.
Not just for an agency.
Not just on someone else's roster.
But as their own business, serving seniors in a way that is personal, meaningful, and needed.
Because seniors deserve more than care.
They deserve the things that make life feel like life.
And the people who bring that kind of companionship deserve the tools, confidence, and support to build work they love.
This can be you.
